১৯৭১ সালের ১৪ মে শুক্রবার এবং ১৭ মে সোমবার পাকিস্তানি সেনাবাহিনী ও ঘাতক দালাল রাজাকাররা সাঁথিয়া উপজেলার রূপসী গ্রামে ঘটায় ভয়াবহ গণহত্যা। প্রায় ৪০০ মানুষ নিহত হয় এখানে। ঐদিন গভীর রাতে পাকিস্তানি সেনাবাহিনী গ্রাম দুটি ঘিরে ফেলে অবিরাম গুলি করতে থাকে। গোলাগুলির শব্দে সবাই ঘুম ভেঙে ভীত-সন্ত্রস্ত হয়ে দৌড়ে যে যেদিকে পারে পালাতে থাকে। পাকিস্তানি হায়েনাদের গুলিতে বহু নারী-পুরুষ-শিশু মৃত্যুর কোলে ঢলে পড়ে। কয়েক’শ মানুষকে নদীর পাড়ে দাঁড় করিয়ে ব্রাশফায়ার করে হত্যা করা হয়।

On 14^th and 17^th May in 1971, the Pakistani army and their native allies Razakar perpetrated a devastated massacre at Rupsi village in Santhia Upazila. About 400 people were killed here. At midnight, the Pakistani army surrounded the village and started fired continuously. At the sound of firing, villagers woke up from sleeping and ran here and there out of panic. Many women-men and children were killed that night. Hundreds of people were lined up on the bank of the river and shot.
