অভয়নগর ওয়াপদা পাওয়ার হাউজ অফিসভবনটি সমগ্র মুক্তিযুদ্ধকালে রাজাকার ও পিস কমিটির নির্যাতন কেন্দ্র হিসাবে ব্যবহৃত হতো। মুক্তিযোদ্ধা, মুক্তিযোদ্ধাদের সাহায্যকারী হিসেবে যাদের সন্দেহ করা হতো, তাদের বিভিন্ন সময়ে ধরে নিয়ে ঐ অফিস কক্ষের ভিতরে রেখে দিনের পর দিনমধ্যযুগীয় কায়দায় নির্যাতন করা হতো। নির্যাতনের ফলে কেউ মারা গেলে তার লাশ পেছনের ভৈরব নদে ফেলে দেয়া হতো। মুক্তিযুদ্ধের সময় ওয়াপদা এলাকাটি ছিল অভয়নগরের মানুষের কাছে সবচেয়ে আতঙ্কের জায়গা। খুব বেশি প্রয়োজন না থাকলে ঐ এলাকায় বা তার আশে পাশেসাধারণ লোকজন যাতায়াত করতো না। মুক্তিযুদ্ধের সময় ওয়াপদা ভবনে এবং এর চত্বরে স্থানীয় এবং অন্য এলাকার শত শত মানুষ নির্যাতনের ও হত্যার শিকার হয়েছে।

Abhaynagar WAPDA power house office was used as the torture center of the Razakar and Peace Committee during the liberation war. The freedom fighters and the suspected helpersof freedom fighters were abducted and tortured brutally days after days. When someone died out of severe torture, his body was dumped in the Bhairab River. During the War of Liberation, WAPDA areawas one of the most horrifying places for the people ofAbhyanagar. Generally, people used toavoid the area. Hundreds oflocal people and peoples from other areas had been tortured and killedhere.
